At the age of 21, Cockroft is one of the youngest candidates to run for office this year. He managed to gather 744 votes, or 38.10 percent, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board's unofficial results. On Aug. 24, he will face Richard Bennett in a runoff for the party's nomination. Bennett, received 456 votes, with 23.35 percent, enough to advance to the runoff with Cockroft.
The winner of the primary on Aug. 24, will face Democrat Chris Odneal in the general election.
